SAN MATEO DAILY JOURNAL

During the summer of 2022, I worked with the San Mateo Daily journaL as a photojournalism intern. I did any photo assignments the Editor-in-chief requested and and took stock photos for whatever the publication needed at that time.

CAPTION: Foster City brought the community together for a free family event celebrating the Indian festival of Holi. The event was hosted at the Leo J. Ryan Park and showcased various food vendors and had a DJ playing traditional Indian music, but the main event was the throwing of powdered colors. People were able to throw colored powder on each other and the park vibrated with energy, especially as people ambushed their families and friends with a dose of powdered pigment. The festival of Holi is celebrated to welcome the coming of Spring and people participate in the throwing of powdered colors to spread happiness and love.

CAPTION: The changing American economy brings many questions for the citizens of the country. An especially relevant issue is how the country-wide inflation will affect the everyday lives of people when they need to buy groceries and other commodities.

A LEARNING EXPERIENCE...

During the first performance, I was still learning how to use a camera and was confused why all the images were showing up blurry...
I learned to fix the shutter speed and figured out the optimal settings to capture motion as well as facial expressions.
Photographing the Wu Shu performance was the first action filled photojournalism I have done. I had no idea how to adjust the lighting and the shutter speed. However, as the performance continued, I learned what settings to use and to maximize the shutter speed and ISO. I can confidently say I am experienced with the DSLR camera now.

BASKETBALL: SCOTS VS EAGLES

I really enjoyed photographing the basketball game because I believe capturing sports games encapsulate an integral part of our school. As a student publication, we aim to provide relevant content to our student body, and photographing our teams are a perfect place to start.

FEATURE PHOTOS

I have taken original feature photos for most of my articles published on Scot Scoop, my school's news site. I always aim to frame my photos using the rule of two-thirds for visual appeal.

CHERUBS

Over the summer, I attended the Medill- Northwestern Journalism Institute and became a "journalism cherub." We were given many photography assignments over the course of the program.
