Design

For our publication's newsmagazine The Highlander, I sometimes design spreads and utilize design elements. I always aim to use engaging colors which match the images, as seen with my article about coming of age films. I graphically designed the polaroids and the idea of the map which aligns with the idea of the movies evolving through the ages. 

For the Love is in the classroom article, I illustrated the graphics and created a pink theme since this was a Valentine's Day themed issue. I enjoy designing for our print magazine since it comes with a lot of creative freedom. This was the first design I did for the magazine and the rough draft was drastically different from the final draft, as I was unaware of how much room the txt would take. All my original plans for the design mostly fell through as I learned to navigate how much truly could fit on a page without making it too busy.

Design was at first an incredibly intimidating process to me. I had never truly used adobe indesign or adobe illustration before, so it was definitely a learning process filled with hours on YouTube tutorials and asking editors how to use certain tools. However, the more that I practiced it, the easier it got and I grew to love designing and the creative freedom that came with it. It was exciting to watch my initial drafts transform eventually to a piece in our magazine.
