Written Work

Since 2021, I have been involved in Carlmont's journalism publication. I have written articles on topics that I'm passionate about, whether that be about certain environment issues or a student in my local community. As an editor, I've also written editorials that are representative of the editorial staff. My published work is featured below, click through to read more.

Editorial: We need to implement digital literacy classes

"The spread of misinformation is incurable as the internet can’t be stopped, and we can’t limit an individual’s freedom of speech. However, we can address the problem to reduce the harmful effects since the digital age is here to stay.

We can attempt to teach the upcoming generations to be aware of these issues and be mindful of future information consumers..."

Editorial: We need to engage in local elections

"However, only 15 to 27% of eligible voters across the United States cast their ballots in local elections. These local elections can include mayoral and council members– an example is Belmont’s upcoming General Municipal Electionon Nov. 8. "

The streets of the city: a rising residence for youth

I've found a passion for advocacy in my community through journalism. After researching the perils that homeless youth must endure, I decided to cover this subject in depth thorough a comprehensive feature. This is the product of my research.

After the Seoul Crowd Crush in Itaewon, I decided to cover the subject the night the news broke in order to inform my community. I dug for sources and found people who were actually at the traumatic event at that time.

Packages/Features

Determination combines with family legacy to pay dividends

Trevor Koto, a Carlmont High School student received a full scholarship to University of Berkeley California because of his dedication which allowed him to earn the NROTC scholarship. I talked to Koto and his family and friends to highlight his feats and bring inspiration to those who read the article.

College towns impact the big decision

Seniors were making their decisions and choosing which colleges they were going to be attending for the next four years. The big decision required careful thinking and I wanted to learn more about what was going on in their thought process. I also noticed a different ambiance whenever I step into a college centric town and I felt that there was a story to report on in that subject matter.

Experts and the public react as space tourism blasts off

When I saw the newest expensive ride to space, I knew that this topic would provoke different opinions from the public. I wanted to learn about both the positives of negatives when it came to such a large announcement and I turned to professors and other knowledgable people who could help answer my questions.

Public opinion locks zoos in a controversy

Although zoos were a memory engrained my childhood, growing up has given me different opinions when it comes to zoos. I wanted to here what other people were thinking on this subject so I decided to contact the local zoo to get both perspectives.

Leaving the next causes tradition to slip away

As an Asian American, I wanted to tackle a topic that I feel strongly passionate about and that was my culture. During Lunar New Year, I was thinking about how life would be like in college when it came to culture since I knew that my parents were my strongest connection to my culture. After discussing the subjects, I learned how much I wanted to stay connected to my culture when I leave to college as well.

Experts anticipate a pricey Thanksgiving meal

After experiencing the pandemic, I suspected that there were lingering affects that stretched beyond the health of American citizens. I did some research into the topic and sure enough, I found multiple impacts that affected the economy. With Thanksgiving coming, a holiday strong focused on the market and food, I wanted to bring my findings to the public's eye and inform them of what was to come.

Pumpkin-caused emissions spook the environment

As much as I enjoy the scenery whenever I visit a pumpkin patch, I can't help but wonder where the pumpkins go if they aren't sold because of how many pumpkins are sprawled around the field. I also wanted to know whether or not there were any detrimental effects of the pumpkins after seeing how high the the annual consumption rate was. I decided to investigate a bit more and while I found detrimental environmental effects, I also learned ways about ways people could contribute.

Experts reveal the paradox behind resolutions

I noticed a constant trend that almost everyone  set resolutions for themselves during the new year. It's was also likely that these resolutions were the same one that they set last year. But why was it a societal joke that their resolutions always failed, why was the saying always, "I'll start next year?" I talked to professors and found an answer, and I wanted to inform the public about a relatable subject.

Authentic Christmas trees grow holiday traditions

Christmas is probably my favorite holiday and because of this, I was looking to highlight small businesses near me that can make this festive tradition happen. I wanted to learn the history because my favorite tradition and share my findings to others because I'm sure that although we all partake in the tradition, most people are unaware of the origin.

Students aid regrowth of local businesses

In person school was out of session for two years, and I suspected that the lack of students would affect the small businesses near school. I wanted to get to know the small businesses that dutifully serve students and learn more about they experience through the pandemic.

The universe beyond our eyes

In this feature piece, I collaborated with a partner to bring our creative ponderings to the page We were curious where the supernatural tales originated from. Although pop culture enjoys utilizing these figures for human entertainment, we had no knowledge about the origin of the stories and we did our research to figure out. After talking to countless professors and various people about their beliefs, we hope to answer readers's curiosities as well.

Behind the money

In this collaborative feature package, I wrote the writing element to the story. I wrote about where the funding behind the festival comes from and by talking with the coordinators, I got the details about the sudden name change that sparked curiosity amongst the crowd.

Your guide to the best boba spots near campus

When working at the winter program at The Stanford Daily, I wanted to write an article about something that I enjoy: boba! I wrote about boba spots near the campus which were also conveniently located near me as well and sifted through menus and drink orders to find my favorite spots to recommend to the students at Stanford University.
